Welcome Back

Lockdowns, snow and maverick US presidents. We’re only eight days into 2021, and there have been enough adventures already, thank you very much!

It’s been a while since I posted anything on this site, but since I have plenty of time on my hands, I’ve no excuse. The pandemic is probably the thing that’s occupying your thoughts at the moment, so I thought I’d start with a family health story.

In 1926, my grandfather, Edward Fernley, spent some time at Southport Convalescent Hospital, recovering from an illness. I’m not sure what he had – I think it might have been Scarlet Fever – but it was serious enough for him to spend some time there.

It’s good to see that he behaved himself while in hospital! The hospital is closed now, and I haven’t traced where the records are kept, but hopefully sometime I’ll be able to find out more about why Edward was sent there.

I wonder whether he was made to do any sea bathing?
