The Drake Escape

Forgive the terrible pun, but here’s some pictures of the day a family of ducks made their Great Escape from the local pond – and ended up in our garden.

I’d removed the garden gates to paint them, and this family of ducks used the opportunity to try and get back to the stream that runs behind our garden. The only problem is that there’s a ten foot drop down from the garden to the stream – a fact that the parents of these unlucky ducklings hadn’t factored in.

After wandering round the garden aimlessly for a few minutes, they made a break for it down the drive and into the street beyond. It took the co-ordinated action of a group of residents to herd the family to the end of the street where we could get them safely back to the water.

We got a duck and three more in the garden on Tuesday. I had to catch them in a washing up bowl and put them over the wall. Ducks don’t make good parents.
