Picture of the week: Wilfred Bradley

This week’s picture is of my maternal grandfather, Wilfred Bradley. I believe this photograph was taken around 1915, when my grandfather joined the royal navy. Although there’s more research to do, it’s possible that Wilfred was too young to join the navy, so may have lied about his age. He served in the navy during the first world war as a signalman. The name of his ship, HMS Castor, can be seen on his hat. There’s an interesting story to tell here, and I’m looking forward to finding out more about his war service.

Wilfred Bradley as a young man (potentialy only 15) taken in naval uniform. His ship at the time was HMS Castor
