20/06/18, Picture of the Week: Moorhen Chicks Feeding

The swans have hatched their cygnets and the baby ducklings are growing up quickly, so now it’s the turn of the moorhens to raise their broods. The moorhens are normally quite elusive and difficult to photograph, so I’m please that I managed to get this picture of one of the chicks being fed. The chicks are only a few days old and they’re still at the stage where they’re just fluffy balls of feathers. The down they’re covered in is so fine that photographs of them often look out of focus. That’s my excuse anyway and I’m sticking to it!

Adjust your dioptre, that can help with focusing issues. Also don’t sit up drinking till four in the morning. Helps reduce camera shake.

Camera shake? Left hand steady as a rock mate: problem is I hold my camera with my right hand 🙂
